EDINBURGH (ENI) A senior member of the (Presbyterian) Church of Scotland, backed by a Roman Catholic counterpart, has raised strong concerns around the practice of “auctioning” and selling human eggs for in vitro fertilization treatment.
“The sale of human eggs favors the commoditization of human parts – human eggs should not be in a shopping basket on the same level as a grocery item,” said Ian Galloway, convener of the church’s Church and Society Council.
Galloway said, “Just as it’s wrong to buy and sell human beings, it is wrong to buy and sell human eggs. It’s a tribute to the creativity of scientists, biologists and medical doctors that some solutions to infertility are now available.”
