Please include Diana Butler Bass' response to Douthat for a spirited alternative view.  Douthat is a noted conservative both politically and theologically. Plus, his Catholic Church doesn't have anything to brag about when it comes to a corrupt leadership that wants to attack nuns instead of dealing with sexual misconduct.   As Bass assets, it isn't so much Liberal Christianity that's the issue, but Christianity in general here in the United States.
